Cleanup/Treatment Implemented: Y
Cleanup/Treatement Categories:
Addl Cleanup/Treatment info: Exploration and remove of an underground storage tank was conducted. A small amount of sludge inside the talk was observed to have a petroleum odor. No detectable concentrations of COCs were found in the soil samples, so no impacts were found related to the UST. The tank had never been registered with IDEM. Benzo(a)pyrene was found in soil above the residential screening level and the city is planning limited soil excavation, and confirmation sampling. An environmental restrictive covenant for PERC in groundwater may be needed, but first additional soil gas sampling will be conducted. In September 2023, 215 tons of soil were removed from the southeast portion of the site around SS-34 and SS-37 where PAH and VOCs exceedances were previously found. Confirmation sampling found that levels were below residential screening levels after the soil removal. However, soil gas levels of VOCs remain at SG-4 over commercial and residential screening levels. Vapor mitigation and an Environmental Restrictive Covenant will be needed.
