Additional Property Attributes

Standard and other historical sources were able to document that a dwelling was present on the central portion and the northwestern portion, a roadway was visible running northeast to southwest in the central portion, and a portion of Northeast 16th Street was present on the northern portion running east to west in at least 1949. A long narrow building was constructed southeast of the residential dwelling between 1953 and 1958, and the northwestern dwelling was demolished. Between 1958 and 1962, a second long narrow building was constructed on the southern portion and Madison Avenue was extended south onto the northern portion of the property. Based on an interview with Fire Chief Dewey King of the City of Sheffield Fire Department, these two long buildings were occupied by John?s Cottages, a motel. Between 1971 and 1981, all three buildings were demolished. All onsite roadways were removed, and the current hotel building and pool were constructed in 1984. Between 2009 and 2013, the pool was filled in and operations ceased in the hotel in 2016.
