Addl Cleanup/Treatment info: BOS 100 was injected into the impacted soils. Here is a excerpt from the website for BOS 100: BOS 100 is a Trap & Treat in situ remediation technology specifically designed to degrade chlorinated solvents. It is a unique material manufactured from high grade virgin carbons (intended for use in food or drinking water applications). The food grade carbon is impregnated with metallic iron formed under reducing conditions at a temperature of roughly 850 degrees C. At this temperature, as the metallic iron is formed it partially dissolves into the carbon forming a new and unique material with properties of both the carbon and iron but with capabilities exceeding ZVI in terms of rates of destruction and the range of halogenated compounds it can degrade. As manufactured, the product contains roughly 6.5% (wt) metallic iron. Reaction end products include dissolved iron, chloride, and a series of unregulated gases such as ethylene and methane. The product is insensitive to groundwater geochemistry (e.g. pH, oxidation-reduction potential).

Other SSD system is in place
The site has been adequately remediated to the point where an engineering control is now appropriate to remove the final lingering potential impacts to human health. Similar to the intended results of a radon mitigation system, the engineering control will remove the potential for lingering sub-slab vapors to enter the breathing zone of building inhabitants. This could be in the form of radon mitigation system, an HVAC system that has been designed to turn over building air more frequently, or other solutions. An engineering control is not in place at this time. Installation is anticipated during building renovation.

Additional Property Attributes

Former industrial manufacturing used to manufacture rubber seals. Owned by Parker Hannifin that is now owned by the non-profit Kentucky River Foothills Development Council. Currently the property is vacant and unused with future reuse intended as commercial or office use. With this cleanup grant, the property was able to remediate sub-surface impacts from chlorinated solvents (TCE) to a point where reasonable engineering controls installed during renovation/redevelopment will make the property safe for re-use.
