Additional Property Attributes

The property was previously bisected by roadways circa 1895; and was developed with residences, a commercial space, a dye works, a hosiery finishing works, and a leather company between 1910 and 1919. The City of Philadelphia purchased the property in 1934 and it has been used for recreational purposes since that time. The property includes ball fields, a garden, playground equipment, a pool, and a recreation center. How the property became contaminated is unknown, however; the property subsurface likely contains historic fill. Previous uses at the property including dye works, a hosiery finishing works, and a leather company; and suspect history fill may have affected the property subsurface. A 1949 permit for a 1,500-gallon underground storage tank (UST) is associated with the property, and a fill port and fuel oil burner switches are present on the property. The planned use for the property is continued use as a public park and recreation facility.
