The subject property consists of one legal parcel totaling approximately 2.01 acres situated along the west side of Shaver Road in Portage, Michigan. The subject property is currently addressed 10028 Shaver Road. The property was historically used agriculturally and residentially until the early 1970s, when the south portion of current on-site building was constructed and utilized for automotive sales and service. Automotive sales operations continue at the subject property today by Diamond Auto Sales, but automotive service operations conducted by a separate company ceased sometime around 2018. A privately funded Phase I ESA was completed in support of acquisition and redevelopment of the site.

The KCBRA funded a Phase II ESA in order to assess the potential for impacts in association with the identified RECs and evaluate the potential for the continued presence of buried tanks on site. The Phase II ESA results demonstrated that no USTs remained buried on site. The Phase II ESA sampling results additionally demonstrated that the contaminants of concern identified on site were limited to metals at concentrations below EGLE cleanup criteria. The completed assessment activities support acquisition of the site for redevelopment.
