Additional Property Attributes

HISTORY:
The property located at 602 Legion Avenue in Houma has been owned by the local government for more than 70 years. It was the location of a semi-professional baseball team's stadium which was torn down after WWII. In 1960, the government financially partnered with the Lenox Hotard American Legion Post 31 to build a facility to serve the parish's veterans, primarily through the American Legion. The Legion has been operating and maintaining the building ever since.

PRODUCTS AND SERVICES:
The American Legion Center is aimed to be used as a hub for the elderly and veteran residents of Terrebonne Parish. Services to those two groups are intended to be enhanced to provide greater access to veterans' benefits, bridges to veterans' benefits, bridges to social services for elderly residents, job-training opportunities for those able to seek and maintain employment, and other related services. In addition, the facility includes an existing ballroom that provides an opportunity to generate revenue through event rentals. With a kitchen and ample space for catering operations to serve a crowd, rental income is anticipated to generate funds to sustain facility operations and maintenance, complemented by leasing space to nonprofit and governmental agencies to locate staff for provision of services to the veteran and senior population.
