Additional Property Attributes

The Nevada Army National Guard first owned and operated the site from 1960 until the mid-1990s. The site contains a building, which was constructed in 1960. The Nevada Army National Guard primarily used the site for training purposes. From 1999 to 2015-2016, Mineral County began using the site as a juvenile detention center through a lease with the Nevada Army National Guard. Mineral County acquired the site from the State of Nevada, Division of State Lands for and on behalf of the Nevada Army National Guard, through a quitclaim deed, in June 2015. Since then, the site has been used as a Boys & Girls Club. in 2021, Mineral County requested assistance from the Nevada Brownfields Program in assessing the building for asbestos-containing materials and lead-based paint. Originally, there was a concern that asbestos fibers had become airborne as a result of damaged kitchen floor tiles. That said, the asbestos and lead-based paint survey was conducted on the entire building, including the damaged floor tiles. However, during the course of the asbestos and lead-based paint survey, a damaged friable asbestos-containing material (fabric coated pipe insulation) was discovered in various parts of the building. This discovery prompted the unanticipated closure of the Boys & Girls Club until the asbestos issue was mitigated. In addition to the asbestos and lead-based paint survey, Nevada Brownfields Program also funded removal of the damaged fabric coated pipe insulation as well as the damaged kitchen floor tiles and associated mastic (the survey revealed that the floor tile mastic was also asbestos-containing).
