Additional Property Attributes

The site contains is one parcel with a commercial, single-story building with two store fronts, and is located on the city's town square. The previous home appliance and computer company tenants had vacated the site by 2015, and the building sat vacant. The City sought to acquire the property and make the interior reuse ready, to then encourage new business to either lease or purchase the building. Due to anticipated significant costs for remodeling and renovation, which would include ACM abatement, the City asked for Iowa DNR 128(a) assistance with pre-acquisition environmental all appropriate inquiry and ACM inspection; and, post-acquisition, a sub-award for assistance with ACM abatement. As of early 2020 the building had all asbestos removed and was ready for renovation; however, economic changes with the COVID-19 pandemic have slowed reuse plans and occupancy return. Redevelopment will occur here, as the town square has been very successful with renovation and reinvigoration. As redevelopment is verified, this information will be updated.
