Additional Property Attributes

Review of aerial photographs, topographic maps, building permit reports, city directories, and
environmental lien reports indicated that the Site was developed in 1880 as the RLK site (as described in
historical accounts from the HCHS) along with adjacent limestone mining claims. Adjacent areas to the
Site were and have remained vacant unimproved forested lands. While the RLK site is located amongst
the historical mining areas of Hinsdale County, hard rock mining for gold or silver did not occur around
or adjacent to the RLK Site. Limestone was quarried there from 1880-1882. Limestone has a natural
buffering effect and neutralizes acid related hard rock mining wastes. No mine related wastes were
observed on site or on adjacent areas to the site by CDPHE personnel.
