Additional Property Attributes

The 1.38-acre Site is currently owned by the City of Gloversville. The Site has been developed since at least 1902. Historically, the Site was occupied by a leather mill and tannery. The Site features an asphalt slab with no structures currently built. Asphalt millings are piled on the western portion of the property. The rest of the yard is used as construction materials storage. Water and sewer utilities are listed under the Site property. The Site was previously owned and operated as the George F. Troutwine Skin Mill and Leather Dresser, the George Levor and Co. Leather Mill Number 2, Framglo Tanners Inc, Wood and Hyde Leather Company, and the Klairimpex Metro Leather Import and Export. These companies performed cleaning, liming, coloring, finishing, and drying operations historically on-site. A coal shed was also present on-site. All former buildings on the Site were demolished in May of 2011 following a Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) investigation of asbestos material located onsite that determined the buildings posed a threat to public health and environment. Chromium, lead, chrysotile asbestos, and amosite were detected in building and other materials, including insulation covering pipes and tanks. This is an EPA Superfund Site. Hazardous wastes found by investigation: chromium, formaldehyde, lead, ignitable.
