Additional Property Attributes

The Site is currently owned by Wood & Hyde Leather Company and is a vacant industrial property. Six (6) buildings are located at the Site, however, two (2) are listed as sheds on the property card. One (1) four-story industrial building with a basement containing 94,864 square feet is the main tannery building at the Site. The tannery building was constructed in 1900 and is situated in the northeastern portion of the Site. A shipping and office building is in the southeastern portion of the Site along Wood Street. The office and shipping building contains approximately 11,726 square feet and was constructed in 1970. Between these two buildings are the garage (or cardboard shed) and the wastewater treatment system tanks. A carpenter's shop and storage barn are located along Foster Street. The Cayadutta Creek traverses the western portion of the Site and flows beneath the storage barn. The Site buildings are currently vacant and were last occupied in July 2020 by Wood & Hyde Leather Company. Remnants of tannery operational equipment, tools and materials are located throughout the facility. Former Site operations included: tanning, shaving, splitting, coloring, stretching, buffing, rolling and finishing the leather. Spray booths for painting the leather are located in the western end of the second floor. The third and fourth floors of the tannery building were used to hang dry the leathers. Former material used in Site processes are being consolidated for resale or disposal. Materials are stored on the first floor of the tannery, the garage building and barn/shed.
