Additional Property Attributes

This property is a prime location to help save the Rivercane that is present at the site. Rivercane is a major culturally significant plant for Choctaw people, we use it for everything from food, bread, to baskets, blowguns and many different uses. Choctaw Nation has been partnering with the Fish and Wildlife Service to work with community members to bring back rivercane (both types) which were used for the discussed uses. This site could help establish an area where rivercane can be collected and grown for Choctaw gatherers who live within Choctaw county. Phase I was conducted and completed in 08/2021. No major RECs found on the site. Phase II sampling is required to see if dump materials is adding to water quality issues. Removal of dumped materials will most likely use leveraged funding from our compliance department.

Phase II sampling was recommended by the contractor, however, no hazardous waste has been observed at the site, and evidence of obvious contamination has not been readily observed but with trash continuing to pile up, moving downstream, and continually impacting the site, we have determined to move forward with removal of dumped materials.
