Additional Property Attributes

This site is a portion of the historical Missouri State Penitentiary, which, at its maximum, covered approximately 147 acres. Phase I and Phase II investigations were conducted on the full site in 2010. At that time, though, buildings covered the grounds of the 102 N. Chestnut portion of the site. Those buildings have since been demolished and removed, and the city would like soil and groundwater sampling to be conducted within their footprints.

A Phase II was conducted. The following classes of contaminants were detected in the surficial and/or subsurficial soil: volatile organic compounds, semi-volatile organic compounds, polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and metals. Of these, only PAHs and metals were found in excess of the Department's Default Target Levels (DTLs), the lowest target level, and Residential Risk-Based Target Levels. No contaminants were found in the groundwater above the DTLs.
