Additional Property Attributes

The site is located at 111 S. 7th Street, 123 S. 7th Street, and 125 E. 12th Ave, tax parcel numbers C11 144, C11 145, and C11 147, respectively. The total site area is approximately 1 acre and consists of two large, historic buildings and two parking areas. There is an office building that separates east area of the site (125 E. 12th Ave) from the west area of the site. The west area of the site consists of two historic commercial buildings along S. 7th Street with a parking lot to the east. The buildings have been formerly occupied with various stores, offices, and a bank. The east area of the site consists of a parking lot. The Crisp County Tax information states that the site originally belonged to First State Bank until it was purchased by Downtown Cordele Development, LLC in 2006. A portion of the building onsite is currently being used for offices.

In the earliest Sanborn map reviewed (1891), the site is vacant besides a small school towards the southwest corner. In the 1895 Sanborn map, an office and two sheds appear in the northwest area of the site and a residential house appears in the east portion of the site. In the 1898 Sanborn map, the site is vacant besides a church in the southwest corner. The site remains relatively unchanged in the 1903 Sanborn map. In the 1908 Sanborn map, a large commercial building divided into sections and labeled for various commercial uses appears along the west edge of the site and a church is to the east of the building. The Sanborn also shows a "5-gal gasoline tank" outside of the store labeled "printing". According to the Crisp County Tax Assessor, the Alamo House was constructed in 1904 and 1905. The site appears relatively unchanged in the 1913 and 1918 Sanborn maps. The site consists of the large commercial building (The Alamo House) along S. 7th St in the west area with a vacant area to the east and a building on the east portion of the site. The site remains relatively unchanged in the 1959 Sanborn map. In the earliest historical aerial image reviewed (1937), the site appeared to be a large building on the western portion with vacant land to the east. In the 1948 aerial photograph, a commercial building appeared on the east portion of the site. The site remains relatively unchanged until the 1999 aerial photograph when the structure on the east portion of the site is no longer there. The site remains relatively unchanged in the remaining aerial photographs. Between the western and eastern portion of the sites is a 0.34-acre property that contains a commercial building built in 1940, this building appears on the aerial images.

At the time of site reconnaissance, the site was observed to be a large, historic building with a large parking area. The building appeared to have formerly been used as a bank. The building is currently vacant and shows signs of deterioration in the flooring, walls, and ceiling. Possible asbestos containing material and lead-based paint were observed inside the building during site reconnaissance.

The north adjacent property consists of Suwanee House Apartments, a parking lot, and a United States Postal Service building. The east adjacent property consists of a parking lot and S. 6th Street beyond. The adjacent property to the south consists of E. 12th Ave with commercial buildings beyond. The adjacent property includes Crisp County Special Education, Big Bandey Auto Repair & More, a religious facility, and a vacant field. The west adjacent property consists of S. 7th St./Highway 41. Beyond the roadway are commercial buildings including Payday Cash.

We have performed a Phase I ESA consistent with the procedures included in the ASTM Practice E 1527-13 at the property located at 11 South 7th Street, 123 South 7th Street, and 123 East 12th Street in Cordele, Georgia.
