Additional Property Attributes

The site currently operates as a barber shop and vehicle parking. The site is approximately 0.22 acres in size and triangle shape. A brick and wood building exists on the northwestern portion of the property. The majority of the property is covered in paved concrete. The remnants of a former dispenser island is located on the eastern-central portion of the property. Formerly active UST fill ports are visible to the south of the building located onsite. Based on MDEQ UST files, Buffalo Services Inc. used the Underground Storage Tanks (USTs) from 1966 until 1980 and a file memo from MDEQ dated July 22, 1993 changed the classification of the tanks from "Temporarily Out of Use (12/22/88)" to "Permanently Closed In Place" as of July 22, 1993. Per the City's Downtown Master Plan, once the assessment is complete and (if necessary tanks removed), the property is to be redeveloped into the Hiram Revels Plaza, a new gateway to the city in partnership with City. The plan includes the creation of a Trailhead for St. Catherine Street Trails to Forks of the Road, in partnership with the National Parks Service.
