Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: One of 5 parcels being donated from a defunct nonprofit to Shreveport Common (nonprofit arts- and community-based redevelopment authority). Sites were primarily residential and have been vacant for decades. This property is located in Shreveport Common Creative Placemaking Revitalization Area, a HUD Choice Neighborhood, and a designated downtown historic district. Nearby are several significant and national historic registry buildings intermixed with smaller historic structures. Across Milam is the HUD Choice funded project, Southern University at Shreveport's KICK Incubator Kitchen.
Future Use: The Shreveport Common Vision Plan, approved by City Council in 2012 calls for affordable or mixed rate small scale multi-family residential such as 4-plexes and townhouses with a preference for affordable financing opportunities to own. The Shreveport Common Redevelopment Committee will issue an RFP for this project and select the best proposal for affordable residential the fits with the tenets of the Shreveport Common Vision Plan, as defined by the community, that all projects be built on the history of the area including fitting with the architecture of the surrounding buildings, have a creative component which could include artist affordable residential, be sustainable both environmentally and financially and enhance the community.
