Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: Unknown but most likely residential. This property is located in Ledbetter Heights, formerly St. Paul's Bottoms, now a part of HUD Choice Neighborhoods and one block west of Shreveport Common Creative Placemaking revitalization area. The Bottoms, a storied section of the Allendale neighborhood, has been emptied of residents over two decades. It was renamed Ledbetter Heights in 1982 after Huddie Ledbetter who visited and wrote songs about the Bottoms. The area was a multi-ethnic, multi-class neighborhood for most of its history. From 1903-1917 the city declared that prostitution would not be prosecuted in the St. Paul's Bottoms. Today, most of the decrepit structures that once housed families and businesses are gone. The empty lots have become homes to oaks and mulberry trees and field grasses. One of 5 parcels being donated from a defunct nonprofit to Shreveport Common (nonprofit arts- and community-based redevelopment authority).
Future Use: Shreveport Common (nonprofit arts- and community-based redevelopment authority) plans to redevelop the site as affordable housing.
