Additional Property Attributes

1 Main Street, Berlin is a vacant lot comprised of approximately 1.61 acres, along the north side of Main Street in Kensington, CT. Historically, the Site was part of a the larger Sherwood Manufacturing facility located south of the Site, across Main Street. The Sherwood Manufacturing site operated as a foundry, paper products manufacturer, and a manufacturer of the machinery used for office space, packaging, and storage space associated with the former manufacturing facility, was formerly located on most of the site. Operation ceased to exist in January 2005 and extensive investigation and remediation activities have occurred since 2006 and 2010, prior to the redevelopment of the manufacturing mill complex. The entire site was investigated and remediated by 2009, when the building was demolished, to meet the applicable regulatory cleanup criteria detailed within the CT RSR. Current funded activities were used to monitor residual concentrations of chlorinated VOCs in the Sites groundwater. Once GW data allows, the developers will construct 14-residential units on site.
