The City of Richmond, Henrico County, and project:HOMES (COALITION) contracted Draper Aden Associates under a United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Brownfields Assessment Grant to perform a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) of property located at 2100 Bainbridge Street, Richmond, Virginia, 23230 (City of Richmond Parcel ID S0000413001). The site is currently developed, with multiple structures located on the property.

Historical records reviewed covered the years 1894 through 2022.

A review of historical topographic maps suggests that the property was developed sometime before 1894. The railroad tracks were present in 1894 and Bainbridge Street was constructed on, or before, 1894. Areas to the north, south, east, and west became more developed between 1895 and 1934.

A review of historical aerial photographs suggests that the property was in use from sometime before 1936. The railroad was present prior to 1936 through 1994, and the subject property appears to have been used as a coal yard from 1936 to 1984. By 1994, the property appears to have been used to store equipment and materials. Adjacent properties appear to be a mix of residential and commercial from 1936 to present.

A review of historical street directories revealed that the subject property was used as a coal yard from 1924 to 1953 and a coal and oil yard from 1958 to 1982. The property was used for Honda recycling and used automobiles between 2003 and 2008. Adjacent properties from south, east, to west were residential, retail, and light manufacturing from 1924 to 1998.
