Additional Property Attributes

The Project consists of the abatement and renovation of the former Crispus Attucks Elementary School, a vacant three-story building located at 1818 East 19th Street, Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri, in the 18th & Vine Historic Jazz District. The building was constructed in 1905 with an addition in 1922, includes an attic and basement, and had been vacant for approximately 30 years. The subject property is three parcels totaling approximately 3.25 acres, and includes the former Attucks School building and surrounding parking lots. The condition of the building was severely deteriorated due to water intrusion and vandalism. Past ownership included the School District of Kansas City, Missouri and the City of Kansas City, Missouri. The subject properties are being remediated and renovated to become the Zhou B Art Center of Kansas City. The redevelopment includes a complete, historic renovation of the Attucks School building into an art museum/galleries/banquet facility, artist studios, retail space, a roof deck with fabulous views of the city, with ancillary space and outdoor art garden/event spaces and surface parking. Also, a "Digital Ticketed Event Venue", which allows the visitors to be "immersed in the art itself", has been added to the redevelopment.
