Crossett Economic Development Foundation requested DEQ's assistance through our Targeted Brownfield Assistance program in performing a Phase I and Asbestos/Lead-Based Paint Survey for the Crossett Municipal Building. The 1.3 acre property, located at 307/309 Main Street in Crossett, Arkansas, is a focal point of Crossett's downtown business community. The City of Crossett has owned the building since it was constructed in the early 1950's and utilized the property for a fire station, police station, jail, and government offices over the years. Currently vacant and an eye sore, the Crossett Economic Development Foundation wants to assess the options for restoring the building or removing it for beautification of the downtown business community. The Phase I found no Recognized Environmental Conditions, but the Asbestos and Lead-Based Paint Inspection Reports found both asbestos and lead-based paint. The City of Crossett plans to apply for an EPA Brownfield Cleanup Grant in 2023.
