Additional Property Attributes

The site is located at 611 North 7th Street, Cordele, Crisp County, Georgia and consists of approximately 0.5 acres of land. The site consists of mostly wooded land with a concrete slab and gravel driveway in the east area of the site. According to the Dooly County Tax Assessor, the site is currently owned by the City of Cordele.

In the earliest Sanborn map reviewed (1926), the site appears to be vacant. The site appears to be vacant in the earliest historical aerial image reviewed (1937). In the 1948 Sanborn Map, a small auto repair shop appears in the northwest area of the site. The 1959 Sanborn Map shows a filling station in the east area of the site. The filling station and auto repair facility appear to be onsite until the 2006 aerial image. In the 2006 aerial image, the site appears wooded in the east and vacant in the west with concrete in the area that the gas station had been. The site remains relatively unchanged in the 2010 and 2017 aerial images.

The subject site is listed on the Environmental Database Report on the EDR Historic Auto database as Enmark Stations. This is considered to be an onsite REC. A filling station and associated canopy are visible on the site in the 1959 Sanborn Map and the 1983, 1988, and 1993 aerial images. The south adjacent property is listed on the Underground Storage Tank (UST) database as Fast Stop. Based on historical research, the Fast Stop gas station has been operating since 1982. Based on the proximity to the site and presumed groundwater flow direction, this facility is considered to be a REC. Cordele Cleaners was located approximately 150 feet southeast of the site. This facility appears on the EDR Historic Cleaner database and was a garment pressing and cleaner from 1959 to 2008. Based on the proximity to the site, this facility is considered to be a REC. Master Transmission is located approximately 200 feet north of the site and appears on the UST database. Based on information from the facility files at the Georgia EPD office, proximity to the site and presumed groundwater flow direction, this facility is considered to be a REC.

Due to the former petroleum related activities at the site, as well as the off-site RECS (USTs and drycleaners), further investigation is recommended. A Phase II ESA is proposed to determine if there are environmental impacts from the historical uses of the site and surrounding facilities.
