Additional Property Attributes

This site has previously housed retail, as well as a Masonic Lodge in the early 1900s. Most recently it has been used for a Radio Shack. The building is dilapidated and the city of Aurora would like to have it demolished and used either for commercial redevelopment or green space.

The following RECs were identified: The west adjoining property, across Madison Avenue, was identified as a former filling station with underground storage tanks.
A former filling station was also identified approximately 75 feet to the east of the site. Although not considered RECs, suspect asbestos-containing material was noted and lead-based paint was confirmed by XRF in the onsite building. A subsurface investigation is recommended to evaluate possible releases from the the former off-site filling stations. Also, a comprehensive asbestos and lead-based paint inspection should be performed on the building prior to renovation or demolition.

A Phase II was conducted. There were no petroleum products found in the soil above the Department's Default Target Levels (DTLs). Lead was found in the soil above the DTLs, but the samples were below the average background concentrations for Lawrence County. Groundwater was not encountered in the soil borings, so it was not sampled.
