Additional Property Attributes

Austin Energy is retiring Decker Creek Power Station, the city's oldest steam unit, to help lower carbon emissions. The power plant is a natural gas-powered station, located adjacent to Walter Long Lake and Park in northeast Austin. The plant has aged past its useful life and is being de-commissioned as part of an agreement with environmental and renewable energy groups to minimize use of carbon dioxide-producing energy sources. Decommissioning this plant is in line with the City of Austin's commitment to sourcing 55% of energy from renewable energy. After the units have been decommissioned, the existing buildings will be demolished. The city plans to rehabilitate the property and will update aging stormwater infrastructure. Plans include installing rain gardens and vegetated swales to improve critical water quality zones on the property, adjacent to Walter Long Lake.
ABRO is performing an Asbestos Survey at some of the buildings before decommissioning and demolition. The FSP was submitted and approved October 18, 2022. Field work began in November 2022 and was completed in January 2023. The reports are under review and expected to be finalized in April.
