Additional Property Attributes

The property was developed prior to 1897 for residential purposes (including the current northern dwelling). The current dwelling and office was constructed between 1906 and 1911. Two southern dwellings
were demolished by the 1930s and an industrial building was constructed in the central portion in the late-1920s. A remaining dwelling in the northwestern portion was utilized for commercial purposes by a contracting company from at least 1941 to 1950 and was then utilized as a dwelling until it was demolished between 1977 and 1981. An office addition was constructed to a western dwelling in 1948 (i.e., current dwelling and office). The central building was occupied by automotive painting operations from at least 1927 to 1932 and a trucking company and truck service garage with refueling operations from at least 1932 to 1946. The current northeastern and eastern industrial buildings were constructed in approximately 1948. An addition was constructed to the eastern industrial building in 1951. The central and eastern buildings were occupied by a factory for Detroit Hardware Manufacturing Company from at least 1948 to 1958, Daelyte Service Company (a commercial and industrial property maintenance company) from at least 1959 to 1990. The buildings were then utilized for storage by Astro Maintenance (likely another property maintenance company) in the 1990s. The northeastern building was occupied by an engineering company with a testing laboratory (including engine testing using a dynamometer) from at least 1959 to 1970 and then by Astro Maintenance from at least 1985 to 2005. The buildings were condemned and unoccupied by the 2000s and remained vacant until they were purchased by the current property owners in 2018, who have cleared portions of the buildings for use as studio spaces by local artists.
