Additional Property Attributes

The Subject Property consists of approximately 0.40 acres and is developed with two commercial structures. Land use at the Subject Property has been confirmed by historical resources back to 1885, when the Subject Property appears to have been developed with a residential dwelling and several commercial retail structures. The present-day structure at 118 South Queen Street was originally constructed in 1895. Since its construction, the building has operated as a fire station, city hall, retail stores, and/or municipal offices, and the ground floor is currently occupied by the Fire Station Museum. The present-day building located at 112 South Queen Street was constructed as the Caswell Hotel in 1906. The ground floor of the hotel has been occupied by commercial retail businesses, restaurant(s), and offices, and is currently utilized as 'Courthouse Square' office space. Both properties are owned by Lenoir County. 118 South Queen Street is part of the Courthouse Square property, and has been owned by the County prior to available records. 112 South Queen Street was purchased by the County in January 2009 from Charles H. Bowen. Expected future use of the property is for mixed use or commercial retail.
