Additional Property Attributes

The River Point District property was purchased by the Manitowoc and Western Railroad Company on July 1, 1895 and was subsequently developed for railroad use. The property had multiple railroad spurs/tracks, roundhouse, turntable, cinder pit, coal shed, and the southern portion had a grain elevator. The property was later transferred to the Soo Line Railroad Company and then to the Wisconsin Central Ltd., sometime during the latter half of the 20th Century. Railroad use of the site ceased in the 1980s and the River Point District was formally decommissioned by the railroad in the 2000s. The grain elevator was razed in 2001. The Community Development Authority of the City of Manitowoc acquired the site April 12, 2019 for purposes of blight elimination.
