Additional Property Attributes

The site is located at 301 Martin Marietta Drive, Americus, Sumter County, Georgia. The site tax parcel number is 75-23 and the Acres ID number is 253845. The site is approximately 10 acres and includes a 56,000 square foot concrete warehouse building. According to the Sumter County Tax Assessor, the only listed owner for the site is Americus & Sumter County PDA. The structure onsite was built in 1994 and was formerly used as an industrial/manufacturing facility, primarily, if not solely, for the construction of fiberglass boat hulls. The site is currently unoccupied.

In the earliest historical aerial image reviewed (1937), the site consists of vacant land. The site remains relatively unchanged until the 1993 aerial image when an industrial structure with surrounding parking appears in the west area of the site. The site remains relatively unchanged in the remaining aerial images, consisting of a large, industrial building with surrounding parking in the west area of the site and vacant land in the east area of the site.

At the time of site reconnaissance, the site was observed to consist of a large, manufacturing building with offices and a large warehouse with loading docks. The building was surrounded by parking areas and access roadways. The east area of the site consists of wooded land.

The former use of the property is deemed a Recognized Environmental Condition (REC). The former onsite boat manufacturing operations likely involved the use and storage of hazardous chemicals, found in the following items common to fiberglass boat hull construction: solvents, resins, hardeners, catalysts, paints, adhesives fillers, thinners, varnishes and primers. Based on the results of this Phase I ESA which identified an onsite REC, additional investigation is warranted to evaluate the potential for impact to the subject property. Specifically, a limited site investigation is recommended to sample and test soil and groundwater at the site for chemicals of concern generally associated with the former onsite operations.
