Additional Property Attributes

The property is currently undeveloped with the exception of a narrow gravel parking lot along the eastern boundary. The first developed use is unknown but research indicates it was developed before 1891. The 1898 Sanborn Map illustrates residential use in the form of two-story dwellings with outbuildings for most of the block. The majority of homes appear to be demolished sometime after 1970. While the sources of heating used by these homes is not recorded, given the age of the development, it is reasonable to assume that at least some of the homes would have used oil-fired furnaces for heat. The subject property remained residential in nature from sometime before 1925 until at least 2003. The property was previously owned by the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority. The anticipated future use of the property include flood mitigation measures as part of the City's partnership with the USACE to implement the Norfolk Coastal Storm Risk Management Project.
