Additional Property Attributes

Property was developed in 1885 with candy store and residences. The building was demolished in 1912. Current structure was built in 1917 and operated as a drug store with upper apartments. In recent years it was part of the local hardware and general store until vacant in 2010. Building is a 12,444 sf brick building. In 4/29/22 an asbestos inspection indicated that property contained asbestos in the roof, floor tile, and linoleum throughout the building. At that time the second and third floors were not able to be inspected due to severe deterioration of the structure. The property was deemed unstable and required a RACM demolition. City acquired the property in August 2019 due to delinquency in payment of taxes by the property owner. The City of Clinton obtained a Brownfields Cleanup grant and RLF loan to finance a RACM demolition of the structure. In August 2023 the building on the end of the block located at 1006-1008 S 4th St and attached to the row of buildings on the block partially collapsed causing all of the structures to lean and become even more unstable. The City of Clinton completed RACM demolition of the structures located on 1000 Block of South 4th St including 1010-1012 S 4th St. For complete RACM demolition cost see 1000 Block of S 4th St ACRES record. This record only reflects a small portion of the expenses paid for by the city. Associated with ACRES #22102, 22104, 227105 & 22103. Site has been seeded and graded and is ready for reuse. City is looking to sell property to a developer.
