Additional Property Attributes

Subject property currently vacant; covered in grass and gravel plus 4-story former Transformer House building (circa 1920). Owned by AEP. First developed use as electrical substation beginning in 1920. Operated until approx 1990 when equipment was removed from the site. Transformer oils were stored and dispensed on-site, and a former building housed 3 transformer oil ASTs. Interview indicated transformer oil spilled and was cleaned up in the vicinity of the former ASTs. VDEQ was not involved in the spill cleanup. RECs include potential releases from former transformer oil stored and dispensed on-site. Reduced vegetation was noted in the area of the former ASTs during site reconnaissance. RECs on adjacent properties include 2 former petroleum sites (a tire and auto repair facility and former store with a UST) and the adjacent Honeywell site (former Allied Chemical Corp-Pulaski). The Honeywell site operated 1904-1976 as a chemical manufacturing facility. Now listed as a Superfund site with high lead levels documented in soil on-site. An engineered cap now covers portions of the site. Flooding of Peak Creek could mobilize contaminants on the Honeywell site and redeposit them on the subject property.
