Additional Property Attributes

The Shaw-Walker Co. was founded in 1899 and was a manufacturer of a diverse number of office furniture and filing systems until approximately 1990. There are a total of seven buildings within three adjacent parcels. The fourth parcel is a vacant parking lot to the east. Most of the property's buildings remain vacant since the Shaw-Walker Co. left the site. However, the southernmost two buildings were redeveloped and are currently occupied with the Watermark Lofts (53 residential lofts), a coffee shop, office space, and an event banquet hall. The westernmost two buildings were more recently occupied by Knoll, who also manufactured furniture, but they vacated the site in June 2022. The eastern parcel addressed as 1330 Division Street is a vacant lot with some parking spots. Formerly, it contained railroad tracks and was a parking lot for the employees at Shaw Walker. There have been numerous investigations of the property over the years that have demonstrated soil and groundwater impact with numerous contaminants such as VOCs, PNAs, PCBs, cyanide, and heavy metals. Most recent investigations have shown that heavy metals still reside in portions of the property and low levels of other contaminants (VOCs, PNAs, and PFAS) have been identified below regulatory or actionable levels.
