Additional Property Attributes

The Rosedale School, built in 1939, is owned by Austin ISD, the public school system serving Austin residents. The AISD board voted to close a select number of schools that were being underutilized or were no longer able to serve the community. Rosedale offered tailored educational opportunities and quality instruction for children with severe special needs, including children who are medically fragile or need intensive behavioral support. The campus also houses the Transition to Life in the Community program, which prepares older students for postsecondary life. The Rosedale School transitioned to a new, modern campus for the 2022-23 school year, that is custom built to meet the special needs of its students. The previous school building is currently vacant, with community engagement ongoing and is being evaluated for redevelopment by Austin ISD.
Austin ISD will start the school repurposing process for the existing 4.62 acre site in December 2021. The existing school building will be demolished to make way for the future redevelopment. AISD has begun engaging with the community to determine the highest and best use for the property. It will be redeveloped with a mix of affordable housing geared towards AISD teachers and staff, greenspace, and other amenities identified during the community engagement process. The ISD expects to release a Request for Proposals in January 2023 and would like to include the environmental reports.
