Additional Property Attributes

Subject property currently owned by City of Richmond Dept of Public Works and VCU. Property was part of VA state fairgrounds as early as 1908. Transitioned to use by Richmond Public Works by 1950; located next to The Diamond baseball field. By 1969, contained the following City of Richmond facilities: Division of Auto Maintenance, General Services Building, Richmond Arena, Bureau of Operations, Traffic Engineering, Public Works Maintenance Yard, auto and truck garage, truck waste sheds, paint shed, filling station, and petroleum storage areas. By 2003, a VCU sports stadium was built at the 2911 property. By 2018, the portion of the property used by Public Works had been cleared. The remainder of the property was paved. RECs include: contaminated soil, groundwater, and soil vapor identified in previous investigations (no Certificate of Satisfactory Completion of Remediation has been issued by VDEQ) and use of the property for maintenance facilities as shown in historical fire insurance maps and aerial photos. HRECs include two closed pollution complaints on the subject property and three on an adjacent property. Residual contamination may remain in soil and groundwater and may be encountered during site redevelopment.
