Additional Property Attributes

The property consists of two Jefferson County tax parcels (IDs: 930-06989-000 & 930-06990-000) located at 905 & 917 South Main Street in the downtown area of Pine Bluff, Arkansas. The property is currently vacant with several former building foundations in still in place. The former buildings were demolished around 2014.

Part of the property was historically used as a dry cleaner from at least 1950 through 2005. Sanborn maps from 1950 and 1968 identify "Dry Cleaning and Steam Laundry" onsite; city directories from 1963 to 2005 list Young's Laundry and Cleaners at 917 South Main Street. Other former uses include residential developments, a roller skating rink, an auto sales dealership, an auto parts store, and a woodworking shop.

Potential contaminants from former dry cleaning activities include volatile organic compounds (VOCs), semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs), and RCRA metals. There is also a potential for VOC contamination from off-site gas stations and automotive facilities that operated in the 1950s and before, prior to environmental regulations.

The City of Pine Bluff plans to work with the Southeast Arkansas Regional Planning Commission (SEARPC) to redevelop the property as a community greenspace with a memorial to fallen law enforcement officers.
