Additional Property Attributes

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) completed a Phase I Brownfields Targeted Assessment (BTA) for the property in Wichita, Kansas. Based on the information collected during the Phase I report, "Recognized Environmental Conditions" were identified as significant potential for contamination due a historic auto garage on the property, as well as a filling station adjoining the property to the north. Due to the identified RECs, KDHE recommended a Phase II environmental assessment.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) completed a Phase II Brownfields Targeted Assessment (BTA) for the property in Wichita, Kansas. The Phase II BTA was completed in October 2020. The Phase II consisted of two soil borings and five groundwater probes. Four soil and five groundwater samples were collected at the site for volatile organic compound (VOCs) and total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) analysis.

Based on the soil and groundwater data obtained during the Phase II BTA activities, TPH midrange hydrocarbons (MRH) were detected in the groundwater at concentrations above their respective Risk Based Standards for Kansas (RSK) for the residential groundwater pathway. Based on the detections, the site will be referred to the Leaking Underground Storage Tank (LUST) Program for their potential investigation. The property is cleared for redevelopment; however, the Brownfields Program recommended working with the LUST Program if redevelopment plans may encounter contamination. Consulting an environmental professional was also recommended if future development includes residential use or new construction.
