Additional Property Attributes

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) completed a Phase I Brownfields Targeted Assessment (BTA) at the property in Hutchinson, Kansas in February 2021. Based on the information collected during the Phase I report, "Recognized Environmental Conditions" were identified as significant potential for contamination due to a historic onsite laundry facility, friable asbestos containing thermal system insulation (TSI) in a disturbed state, as well as spilled hydraulic oil in an elevator equipment room and in a storage room on the main hallway. Due to the identified REC, KDHE recommended a Phase II environmental assessment, however conducting the Phase 2 would not take place until after the building is removed.

An Assessment of Brownfield Cleanup Alternatives (ABCA) was completed on October 21, 2021 on the Former St. Elizabeth's Mercy Hospital BTA building. The ABCA was completed in anticipation for the application for an EPA Brownfield Cleanup Grant application for the property.
