The area surrounding the site has been developed with residential properties. Pelican Harbor purchased the site on January 31, 2020, with the intent to redevelop the site into a wildlife rehabilitation center. The proposed development includes a two-story building, paved parking surfaces and walking paths, and roughly 25 pens and aviaries for wildlife.
