Additional Property Attributes

World Services for the Blind (WSB), founded in 1947, provides life skill training and career training for the blind, including on-campus dormitories for individuals enrolled in their programs. Prior to 1947, the property was residential.

The WSB campus consists of 1.68 acres developed with multiple buildings, all constructed between 1947 and the 1970s. The buildings contain asbestos in various materials--ceiling tiles, spray-applied acoustical texture, floor tile and mastic, pipe insulation and fillings, window putty, caulk and metal panels, and roofing. WSB would like to perform renovations throughout the campus to update interiors and provide new training opportunities. Before renovations can occur, the asbestos needs to be removed.

An Analysis of Brownfield Cleanup Alternatives (ABCA) and site-specific Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP) were approved by EPA on 5/9/2023. Both documents will be public noticed for a 30-day comment period and any comments received will be addressed prior to commencing site work.
