Additional Property Attributes

The 3.01 acre property is currently consists of 6 delaplidated structures and has been vacant for over 10 years. The property owner is deceased and no ownership entity can be identifed. DEQ obtained a warrant for the contractor to access the property to complete Phase I ESA site reconaissance.

The subject property was first developed and used as a tannery from 1897 to 1940 under the names C.C. Smoot & Sons Tannery (Smoot Tannery) (1897?1925) and International Shoe Company (1925?1940). A flood and fire in 1940 reportedly destroyed the majority of the tannery operations and Jenkins Wholesale Supply Company (Jenkins) moved into the subject property in the 1950s. Jenkins occupied the subject property until the early 2000s. Based on observations during WSP's site reconnaissance, Jenkins Wholesale Supply Company included an automobile restoration business known as Jenkins Properties, Inc. Antique Auto Sales & estorations. RECs of the Phase I ESA included:
- Former tannery operations (notably chromium and arsenic)
- Automotive restoration activites under Jenkins Properties (petroleum, solvents, others)
- Remnant ASTs, drums, other containers of automotive fluids
- In ground hydraulic lifts and floor drains

Historical REC includes:
Leaking UST Incident which reportedly has an Notice of No Further Action.
