Additional Property Attributes

Standard and other historical resources were able to document that the subject property was vacant and agricultural land from at least 1936 until between 1963 and 1967. A powerline right-of-way was added between 1936 and 1949 transecting from the northeast to the southwest. Strip mines were constructed between 1963 and 1967/1969 in the northeastern and western portions. Strip mining ceased between 1977 and 1981 and the property was vacant land until between 1992 and 1998 when a roadway and construction equipment was staged on the property. A baseball field was constructed in the northern portion between 1999 and 2007. A temporary concrete mixing operation site began occupancy in the northern portion in 2022 (approximately one year ago). The concrete mixing operations are associated with the construction of an industrial building located on the northern adjoining property.

According to the key site manager, the strip mines were reportedly phosphate mines. Based on available information, phosphate mining in middle-Tennessee typically included excavating shallow pits (less than 20 feet deep), removing the phosphate soils and then covering the area with the previously excavated top soils. Based on the lack of large excavated areas, lack of evidence of tailing ponds, and observed site conditions, PM has not identified the former strip mining as a recognized environmental condition (REC).
