Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The site historically operated as a hospital from 1969 to 1992, and then as an inpatient/outpatient geriatric psych program from 2018 to 2020. The facility has been vacant since 2020. Historical environmental assessments of the site identified asbestos containing materials (ACM) throughout the structure and partial abatement has been conducted. Additionally, parts of the roof blew off several years ago causing water leaks during rain events.

Planned Reuse: The Claiborne Memorial Medical Center plans to donate the site following completion of ACM abatement to the Claiborne Parish Fire District #3, who plans to demolish the building and build a new fire station. Transitioning this building and land to the Claiborne Parish Fire District #3 would allow this site to continue to serve North Claiborne Parish in a public capacity as a modern and efficient Fire Station with updated fire engines and larger crews on-shift, as well as up-to-date firefighting technologies. Additionally, the transition would allow for better coordination on emergency calls with Pafford Ambulance (the fire department's EMS partner), which is located adjacent to the property. The location on Highway 79 is more central to the area and provides easier exit in an emergency. The site will also facilitate drive-thru bays so the fire trucks don't have to be backed in, reducing traffic congestion and the potential for damage while backing in vehicles.
