Additional Property Attributes

The subject property is comprised of two legal parcels (tax ID#s 14-19-230-040 and 14-19-230-070), totaling approximately 10.89 acres. The property was first developed in 1955 as an industrial site and was used by Arco Industries Corporation (Arco) from approximately 1971 to 1996. Arco was an industrial latex/rubber manufacturer and was identified as one of several responsible parties associated with the Schoolcraft Area Organics Contamination Site, which includes several groundwater plumes in the area containing VOCs. Environmental investigations and remedial activities have been conducted on the property.

To help address environmental concerns at this site, the Authority secured a Grant and Loan from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) which was used to fund the disposal of contaminated soil, the design and installation of a vapor mitigation system, and other environmental activities. The property has an approved Brownfield Plan to repay the loan, and the Developer for eligible activities. In 2023 the developer broke ground on an expansion of their operations at 555 E Eliza Street and engaged the Kalamazoo County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority (KCBRA) on a Brownfield Plan amendment. An evaluation ultimately determined the amendment was not needed, and 2023 work would be funded by the KCBRA Local Brownfield Revolving Fund (LBRF).
