Additional Property Attributes

The old church, consisting of 15,570 square feet of space and built around 1900, at this site has been found to contain asbestos. The City of Nevada would like to demolish the building and use the property for a park or other public use.

A gas station was once located to the south of the site, and an auto repair shop and auto salvage yard were once located to the west of the site. Asbestos has been found during prior investigations. Suspect lead-based paint is likely present in the onsite building. Electrical ballasts, possibly containing polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are present in the building. A limited Phase II investigation is recommended to determine if the historic adjacent auto operations have impacted the soil and groundwater at the site. A lead-based paint inspection should be completed prior to demolition or renovation of the church. Proper disposal of the asbestos, ballasts, and any other possible hazardous substances in the onsite building should be performed prior to demolition or renovation.
