Additional Property Attributes

Site Description and History: The site is developed with a vacant historical typewriter building constructed in the early 1930s.

Environmental Concerns: Potential environmental concerns are associated with historical uses of the site and surrounding sites, including suspect USTs reportedly on an adjoining property and potential lead-based paint and asbestos in building materials. Additionally, the property is located in a well-developed area in downtown Alexandria; therefore, potential contamination from nearby properties is a concern.

Future Reuse Plans: Future reuse plans include a mixed-use redevelopment with residential space on the top floors and commercial space at ground level. The site has been vacant for over 38 years. The redevelopment would create jobs and affordable housing for the neighborhood, increase tax revenue, and reduce blight in a highly visible area of downtown.
