Additional Property Attributes

The building was built around 1910 and was historically used for wholesale grocery distribution through the 1950's. More recent uses include a roller rink on the second floor prior to use of the building as a custom cabinet and hardwood products company from the late 1980's until approximately 2017. The structure is currently vacant and is owned by the City of Hinton. The site is currently developed with a commercial structure formerly operated as Hinton Hardwoods. According to information obtained from the previous owner (Mr. Ziegler), the commercial structure was constructed in approximately 1915 and was operated as a wholesale grocery between 1915 and the 1950s; according to the EDR provided Sanborn Maps, a commercial grocery was observed at the site as early as 1910. During operation as a wholesale grocery, the eastern exterior of the subject building was used for access by railroad cars; the cars were allowed access for loading of supplies. Between the 1950s and late 1970s the site structure was utilized, off and on, as a roller skating rink until the early 1980s when it was reopened and operated solely as a roller skating rink. Hinton Hardwoods began operation at the site in 1988-1989 and operated at the site for approximately three years. During which time various financial endeavors resulted in working with a venture capital company that eventually took ownership and ultimately filed bankruptcy. At which time, according to Mr. Ziegler, Hinton Hardwoods returned and took over ownership as New River Wood, Inc. New River Wood, Inc. took ownership in 1992 and operated as a custom cabinetry company; the site operated as New River Wood, Inc. from 1992 to approximately February 2017. Areas outside of the footprint of the structure on site were noted to be developed with paved driveways/parking areas and undisturbed grass covered areas.
