Additional Property Attributes

The approximate 2-acre Site comprises a 2-story public library building (Site building), a parking lot with a small garage, grass fields, and associated landscaped features. The Site is located near the center of downtown Milford and approximately 300 feet east of the historic 'Milford Oval' area. The Site is accessed via Nashua Street to the north.

In 2019, three lots (Map 26, Lots 151, 153, and 154) were merged to the Site building parcel (Map 26, Lot 152) to make the current Site. Flat gravel areas exist in the southwest portion of the Site where two (2) dwellings were once located on former lots 153 and 154 (29 and 39 Nashua Street, respectively). The northeast portion of the Site, formerly lot 151, is used as an outdoor patio area for library guests.

The original residential building, a relatively large 2-story dwelling along with several sheds and stables, were constructed sometime before 1885. By 1949, the Site building had been acquired by the Town and construction to convert the Site building into the Wadleigh Memorial Library had started. Construction was completed in 1950, and the library began operating. The Site building received an addition in the late 1980s. In 2018, the two dwellings in the southern portion of the Site were demolished and removed.

The Town of Milford is planning to expand the library with an addition and create additional downtown municipal parking to support local business in the Oval.
