Additional Property Attributes

The current owner is University of Alaska, who received this property from the State of Alaska in 1984.
The local community used this site as an illegal dump site for many years in the 1950s-1970s. Solid waste, hazardous waste, household waste, and all other waste was dumped here by local community members.
This site is at the top of a bluff that overlooks the Copper River. The waste goes all the way down the bluff, so could contaminate the Copper River, which is the source of subsistence food resources (salmon) and could affect other wildlife that utilize the river and land.
The reuse plan is to let the area go back to its natural state to encourage the growth of natural resources, thus urging wildlife and native plants to repopulate the area, and stop contamination of the river and salmon. Community members will then be able to harvest traditional subsistence resources, such as moose, small animals, salmon, and berries, for a subsistence life and increase food security. The Native Village of Kluti-Kaah also wants to develop an easement through the area to access their fishwheel sites.
