Additional Property Attributes

The property has historically been used for residential purposes. Due to its dilapidated condition, the City plans to demolish the residential structure. This site is centrally located within Cameron, along with several others in the immediate area that have long been on a list of blighted properties that the City desired to raze. As of the 2010 census, Cameron WV only had 542 housing units for a population of 946 people, which indicated that the city did not have enough livable housing to support any increase in the population or to house young families that grew up in the city - as young people desired to purchase houses of their own they would have to seek safe and functional housing outside of Cameron. These sites are ideal locations for redevelopment once the remains of the buildings are removed, and the current condition of the structures impacts community welfare, outlook, property values, and safety. Once the dangerous and dilapidated structure and its associated liability is removed, the site will be more attractive to prospective purchasers and redevelopment. The project will immediately improve the overall property values in Cameron and will enhance beautification of the area for residents.

This property has been on the City's demolition list for some time. The City has been seeking funding to help demolish abandoned, dilapidated properties to revitalize the community and place such properties back into productive use. As Marshall County continues to see an increase in natural gas drilling and infrastructure, a need for workforce housing and other amenities to support the natural gas industry is increasing. The City of Cameron is located in the eastern portion of the county and is the only incorporated municipality in the area; thus, the most strategic place for future development.
