Additional Property Attributes

The property is currently vacant land that is mostly concrete covered from past use as a parking lot with a limited amount of greenspace.

Known past uses of the site include a Park n Ride parking lot and FEMA trailer parking site. The City requested a Phase I ESA under LDEQ's TBA Program to assess potential environmental concerns associated with historical uses of the site and surrounding sites and for liability protections following property transfer. The Phase I ESA was completed in November 2023, and identified a recognized environmental condition (REC) associated with a historical auto station on a nearby property. The Phase I ESA report can be accessed on LDEQ's EDMS here: https://edms.deq.louisiana.gov/app/doc/view?doc14098035

A Phase II ESA is bring conducted under LDEQ's TBA Program to further assess the REC identified in the Phase I ESA.

The City is working with the Regional Transit Authority (RTA) on reuse of the site as a Transit Oriented Development site that would provide housing as well as jobs. This type of development that would provide residents the ability to live and work within a short distance would be an asset to the community. Additionally, if the proposed Bus Rapid Transit line is completed, the project site could provide residents with a retail center available via bus and give them an opportunity to travel farther distance in a smaller amount of time.
